This 115 sqm penthouse overlooking Rotterdam’s Harbour along the River Maas has been thoroughly transformed into a stunning, multicoloured loft that fits the client’s taste like a tailored suit.

 

The client’s love for vintage, melancholic colours, and art guided the entire design and building process. Existing bedroom walls were removed, and built-in cupboards were re purposed. By placing them as a giant room divider in the middle of the penthouse, all requested functions were strategically located according to the view and their need for privacy. This was achieved without any traditional separations; even the bedroom remains open, with a huge curtain providing the option to close it off.

 

The cupboards were recladed with ash, stained in a moody dark brown. The existing kitchen and its appliances were relocated and extended with new fronts and a customized kitchen island which is perfect for entertaining. The bathroom was rearranged to include a window and a stylish black niche for the shower.

 

The biggest overall challenge was integrating existing loose furniture and finding the perfect balance with the existing art and newly introduced colours, fabrics, and carpets.
